Judges Need Not Know All Laws

Judges Need Not Know All Laws

1
In an LLM (Master of Laws) class that this author was attending, students insisted that every judge should know every law. Being the sole opponent of that view was not an enviable position. Yet, the best of jurists have declared that it is not necessary for all judges to know all the laws. It is the duty of the contesting advocates to highlight their stand as effectively as debunking that of the opposition.
What is required of judges, so say the greatest of them, are two qualities. Honesty and courage. A good judge will ask all the right questions; a good advocate will point out the right answers from the statutes. He will present, to the judge, previously decided cases, notings from the legislative exercise that led to the law, and, above all, the repercussions on future problems, should the order not be passed in his favour.
A magistrate passed an order releasing an impounded passport. He had heard arguments in favour of such an order. He felt convinced and said so. The next day, he had doubts, nagging doubts. What was the argument that swung the case? Did the magistrate get the gist right? Can he placate his conscience?

Defence Minister's Customary Broadcast to the Armed Forces

Following is the text of the Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar's customary broadcast to the Armed Forces personnel over All India Radio on the eve of the 70th Independence Day:

"My Dear Jawans,

We shall be celebrating our 70th Independence Day tomorrow. On this occasion, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to each one of you serving in the Armed Forces. I extend my greetings to all serving personnel as well as ex-servicemen of the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Coast Guard. I also extend my best wishes to the family members of our Armed Forces personnel, many of whom are deployed far from their homes.

Well Done Indian Army

Long overdue action.
And here is another beautiful well executed idea.

The Tral bn removed the Pakistan flag from the tower at  Burhan Wani's town and replaced by hoisting the tricolor. The whole event was shot with a Quad copter.
Well Done, once again.

It has come out beautiful. Just watch.
Just what the valley needed on the Independence Day.

Encashing our freedom

Indian Flag Tricolour - 01

Some people will do anything to earn money and enhance their power, - even become patriots and humanitarians.***

On this day we the people of a truncated and bloodied India regained our freedom not only from the British but also from the 565 Maharajas, Nawabs and Princes and tens of thousands of zamindars.
Our freedom, which we so lightly take and for granted, has been obtained by the commitment, efforts, and sacrifices of our forefathers. Today is a good day to ask, 'Do we recognise their contribution and have we made ourselves worthy of so great a sacrifice?'

Why Indian Army should be indebted to this IMA batch from 70 years back
Indian gentlemen cadets were commissioned, for the first time under the tricolour of independent India.

The surviving veterans of the New Delhi chapter of the Indian Army gathered at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on August 8, 2016 to commemorate the start of their training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun on this day 70 years ago.
In August 8, 1946, 249 bright young men reported at the academy, brimming with confidence and hope. After the end of Second World War in 1945, India had been granted independence, following hundreds of years of foreign rule. So these were to be the leaders of a free India and were fired with patriotic zeal.

Why MoD hasn't seen any reforms in last two years

Major General Mrinal Suman
India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) is unique in most aspects. No other country can boast of such a set-up. Not convinced? Read on.
Responsibility for India's national defence is discharged through MoD, which provides the policy framework and wherewithal to the armed forces. MoD has five Secretaries, heading different departments. Here is a closer look at their functioning.
Department of Defence (DoD)
According to the Allocation of Business Rules of the government, the Defence Secretary heads DoD that is responsible for the defence of India and every part thereof, including preparation for defence and all such acts as may be conducive in times of war. In other words, he is tasked to ensure the defence of the country. Surprised? Yes, it is his responsibility and not that of the Service Chiefs.

A MISSED CALL TO KNOW YOUR BANK BALANCE, LAST TRANSACTIONS

A Missed Call To Know Your Bank Balance, Last Transactions
Often, we need to know the latest bank balance. For this we may log in through the net or go to the nearest ATM centre or call the branch. Some of us may be using phone-banking. But all these options are time-consuming, particularly, the phone-banking facility, where you have to press some numbers if you want to know something, and then another number for going to a particular menu and then giving PIN and then… and it continues! If you call the branch, the concerned staff member will ask you a few questions to know

Recent news on Times Now have brought out the extent of the game Pakistan and it's so called non-state actors, who are joined to the hip of the ISI, are playing in Kashmir. Perhaps the most damning aspect is that many of our journalists—Arnab calls them the Pakistan Apologist Group, actually help to fan the flames.

Roles?
SNAPSHOT
A bureaucrat who doesn't wish to be named writes on why the time is right for the Modi government to initiate a two-fold reform in bureaucracy. One, administrative positions should be made open to retired military officers and two, experts should be brought in via lateral entry
The stunning victory of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2014 rested on its promise of reforming India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly committed himself to this objective.

STOP BEING DEFENSIVE ABOUT KASHMIR / BY VIKRAM SOOD

For a change a sane advice.  Indeed India must stand up for its right to J&K that acceded to India legally and is an integral part of India.  This dilly dallying is what causes confusion, and people like Chidrambaram start making nosensical statements.  Govt needs to put forth a straight policy to firmly state J&K is not a dispute and will not be treated as anything but integral part of India.  What is in dispute is the Pak Occupied portion of so called 'Azad kashmir' and Gilgit Baltistan.  Firner action is needed, not only to bring situation under control, but also to teach Pakistan a lesson.

Stop being defensive about Kashmir
 By Vikram Sood
The writer is former chief of R&AW
Well-known facts are sometimes forgotten, conveniently overlooked or twisted to suit a particular narrative. So, it is necessary to restate some facts and bring the discourse back on rails.
Kashmir, all of it, belongs to India and it will stay like that. We have a document affirming the status of Kashmir and Pakistan has never observed the UNSC resolutions of April 1948 to solve the issue. In any case, Jammu and Kashmir is no longer listed by the UN as a dispute.

THAT INEPT SAINT ANTONY

That inept 'Saint Antony'
July 29, 2016 08:59 IST
'It was almost as though there was widespread relief that the defence bureaucracy, and the minister, could find someone willing to shoulder the blame for everything that had gone wrong with the services under Antony's charge -- the poor preparedness of the forces, slow acquisitions caused by indecision, cancellation of contracts and whimsical blacklisting of defence contractors over the tiniest suspicion that they may have paid speed money or kickbacks.

AGING GRACEFULLY

https://naraharig.org/2016/07/16/ageing-gracefully/

AGEING GRACEFULLY

It is a universal truth, that you age with time, if you are lucky ! What I meant is some of us may not be lucky enough to see ourselves getting old. In your 30s to 50s you are behind career, money, achievement of goals, power, ability to direct – individuals, families, teams, corporations, society and even nations whatever they might be. You behave as though you were neither young, nor will age with time. Somehow you feel the clock will stop here and will achieve what you had thought of and will continue to do so.

As you reach 60s, you look back and you have lost some, gained some and over all it has evened out, and there comes the time where you have nothing to think of to do, or go after. You have had your time in Sun, made most of the opportunity, and life hits you hard and staring at you for next 20-30 years at least, where you do not control anything not even individuals in the family, kids are caught up in their routine, plenty of time to achieve their goals and aspirations, and not much time for anything else. Sounds familiar! Right ?.

NDA- AMITABH BACHHAN'S TALK

AMITABH BACHAN’s TALK AT NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY
‘It would be a travesty against your honour but to speak plainly here among you. You are the ultimate guardians of our nation, our culture, our civilisation.  As guardians, you are not only trained as preservers of our peace, but also as warriors for our battle. You are not only trained to protect life, but to take life, and give your own. Your vocation is our life and our death, both collectively and individually.’
